New Delhi: HDFC Bank has advised its customers to keep 'mouth shut' to protect them from online fraud. The bank has warned that some cyber thugs are defrrauding customers by posing as fake customer care officers of the bank, and robbing their hard-earned deposits and capital. The bank started advised its customers to be careful with them.

Practice 'MoohBandRakho'

"Received a message for an FD/RD transaction you didn’t make? Scamsters are using fake HDFC Bank helpline numbers & asking people to download screen-sharing app to access their banking information. So practice #MoohBandRakho when the scamsters call," HDFC Bank tweeted from its official handle.

How to identify a fake call

As per the rules of Reserve Bank of India (RBI), no bank, whether private or government, can ask any of its customers to download unauthorized third party apps, or ask for One Time Password (OTP). In such a situation, when someone calls you and says that he is speaking to the bank, and asks you to download an app or ask for OTP, then you understand that this is a fraudster. You should immediately inform the cyber cell about it.

It is worth noting that in the COVID-19 era, people are giving more importance to online money transfer instead of cash so that they can avoid coming in contact. But fraudsters are taking advantage of this. This is the reason that customers have become more victims of fraud this year than last year.
