The Kasturba Marg police believe that the Nair siblings’ dream of setting up a dairy farm at their native place in Kerala could have been the source of their financial troubles.

“A team of officials have been sent to Kerala to investigate whether Sudhir and Suchitra Nair had made any investments there,” said inspector Mitesh Karle.

Officials also suspect that the brother-sister duo were duped, forcing them to kill their aged parents and then to commit suicide.

On Sunday afternoon, the police had recovered the bodies of AK Nair, 70, his wife Shamla, 60, and their two children from their rented flat at Raheja Estates, Borivili (east).

Police said that the siblings had taken loan worth at least Rs1 crore from various banks to start the dairy farm.

Interestingly, the police did not find any cash or jewellery at the Nairs’ residence. “We did find 73 credit cards of various banks in their names. There were five international credit cards, including one from a Dubai bank,” said Karle.

The cops have seized a laptop and two computer hard-discs belonging to the Nairs, which they say might have details about their investments.

According to the police, Suchitra, a manager in Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), had opted for voluntary retirement last year to start a dairy farm with her brother at Vianad in Kerala.

“Her seniors in BHEL had asked her not to resign as she was doing extremely well in the managerial position. She was one of the finest and most appreciated employees in the organisation,” said Karle.

After resigning, Suchitra and Sudhir left for Kerala to survey properties which would be suitable for their project. According to Karle, family friend Sudesh Kumar KK was helping them check out various locations there.

“The siblings had also narrowed down on a particular bungalow in Vianad. They rented the place and the whole family stayed there for two months. However, the deal fell through due to some unknown reasons,” said Karle.

Dejected and disappointed, the siblings returned to Mumbai and rented the plush 2BHK flat in February.  “We will get more details about what happened in Kerala after our team reaches there,” said Karle.

Post-mortem reports confirmed that the siblings died due to hanging, however, the cause of death of their parents has not been disclosed. “We have sent their viscera for chemical analysis,” said Karle.
