With a new year right ahead of us, the city's police have already made a list of challenges they would be tackling in the coming year. The challenges they have to deal with covers various aspects ranging from traffic problems to terrorism.

"The biggest threat and challenge the city's police will have to deal with in 2019 is terrorism. They will have to keep the city safe from terrorist activities. The second biggest challenge is to maintain law and order in the city especially because, people from different communities and of different relifions co-habit here," deputy commissioner of police and city police's spokesperson Manjunath Singe said.

In the new year, the police will have to ensure smooth flow of traffic. "Traffic is increasing by the day and hence, it becomes important for us to ensure that problems realted to traffic and transport are resolved," Singe said.

"White collar crimes and cyber crimes also continue to be hurdles. That apart, safety of women and children is a big challenge for us. Nowadays, a lot of crimes are committed through social media and hence, keeping an eye on the internet would also be on our priority list. Also, coastal security happens to be another major concern," Singe said.

On being asked about how the city police intends to resolve these challenges, DCP Singe said, "We have been resolving such issues day in and day out. These are continuous threats that have to be tackled on a regular basis. Such threats require constant efforts and innovative approaches. We need to update our skills and make ourselves better to tackle these challenges."
