Priyadarshan gets bail in copyright violation case

A local court on Thursday granted interim anticipatory bail till April 20, to leading Bollywood director Priyadarshan in a case of copyright violations, filed against him by film producer Machindra Chate.

AURANGABAD: A local court on Thursday granted interim anticipatory bail till April 20, to leading Bollywood director Priyadarshan in a case of copyright violations, filed against him by film producer Machindra Chate.

While granting the interim anticipatory bail till April 20 to Priyadarshan Soman Nayar, the Joint District Judge S S Patil, directed him to obtain a regular bail from the concerned court, before April 20.

The Bollywood director has been booked along with seven others including bollywood actor Suniel Shetty by the Mukundwadi police here, under sections 468, 406, 471, 420, 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 63 and 68 (a) of the copyright act following a complaint lodged against them by Chate on February 23.

Chate in his complaint had alleged that eight persons including Priyadarshan have allegedly cheated him by stealing part of the story and scenes from his film 'Bindhast', and inserting them ditto in the film 'Bhagam Bhag', without holding copyright or remake rights of the film.
