Nationalist Congress Party on Thursday has decided to challenge the state government’s decision of appointing BJP MLA Prashant Thakur as a CIDCO chairman, terming this appointment as a conflict of interest.

NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis should cancel the appointment of Thakur within a week, otherwise, “We will challenge it in the respective court with evidence.”

Malik said that in his 2014 state assembly elections affidavit, Thakur has shown that the Thakur and his family members Ram Thakur, Paresh Thakur are owners of Thakur Infraproject and Thakur Brothers Infrastructure Public-Private Ltd. (TBIPPL). “Both these firms had bagged Rs 900 crore worth contracts from CIDCO only, so this is the conflict of interest case.”

“In such scenario, either Thakur has to resign from the chairmanship of CIDCO or he should return back these Rs 900 crore worth contracts to CIDCO again. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had done the blatant violations while appointing Thakur as chairman of CIDCO. The person who is chairman of the CIDCO should not have taken the contracts or cannot allot contracts to his own firms,” Malik said.

Thakur Infraproject and Thakur Brothers Infrastructure Public-Private Ltd. (TBIPPL) had bagged the various projects from CIDCO including proposed Navi Mumbai Airport's flattening work project. Earlier Thakur denied his involvement with Thakur Infraproject and TBIPPL and even his name as a 'protagonist director' name was removed immediately when the controversy over his appointment surfaced.

Malik said that in the elections affidavit of Prashant Thakur, it has clearly mentioned he has the share of both these TBIPPL and Thakur Infraprojects worth Rs 50,000 and Rs 5.50 crore. “Prashant Thakur has got the 70% of the shares of Thakur Infraproject. And the same firm has awarded the primary work of proposed airport work by CIDCO. This is not the conflict of interest, then what is it,” asked Malik.

He further said that the CIDCO, which is the nodal agency for the proposed Navi Mumbai airport likely to give more Rs 10,000 crore worth work contract to these firms only. “Chief Minister Fadnavis earlier exploited the CIDCO by giving the 24 acres of prime land to a private developer at the nominal rate. Now, the same pattern will be followed by Thakur and his family. We hope CM Fadnavis realise the gravity of situations and rescind the appoint of Thakur immediately. Otherwise, we are prepared to go court against the Thakur's appointment,” Malik said. DN

When contacted Prashant Thakur, he refused to speak over these revealing documents.
