The accused used foreign SIM cards to communicate with the victims. Those arrested have been identified as Bengaluru residents Ajay Bhavanishankar Gupta (23), Cedric Domnic Robert (23), Vignesh Suresh K. C., (22), and Sneha Narendra Panchariya (23).

Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Ashutosh Dumbare said that in August 2018, a retired senior citizen who was searching for an overseas job came across an advertisement on Facebook ‘International Jobs & Free Recruitment.’

The advertisement stated that high paying jobs are available in Canada, USA and UAE. “The victim applied for the job online. The ‘advertisers’ contacted the victim and sought his biodata and other documents. They assured him a job in Canada. One of the fraudster also sent photographs and visa documents of various people to the victim,” said police inspector Chimaji Aadav.

The fraudster made the victim deposit Rs 1.54 lakh in various bank accounts, but never kept their promise. “When the victim demanded his money, the fraudster threatened him. The victim registered a case of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy with Kandivali Police,” said Aadav.
