Maharashtra police reminds all cops to use Marathi language

Hence all the Heads of Departments have been requested to use Marathi as the primary language for official use.

Through a circular, the Maharashtra police has asked all it police commissionerates in the state, including city and railway police, to use Marathi as the primary language in offices and also use it while conversing with the public in all offices.

According to the circular sent by Anup Kumar Singh, the Special Inspector General of Police (Admin), Maharashtra police, to all the police commissioner offices in the state, despite giving instructions to use Marathi as a primary language in all the departments, they are receiving several complaints from citizens via 'Aaple Sarkar' portal that the police departments are not using Marathi as a primary language prominently.

Hence all the Heads of Departments have been requested to use Marathi as the primary language for official use.

The circular, in possession with DNA, directs them to use Marathi in all oral and written communication in the offices and also while conversing with the public in their offices. As well as all kinds of public notifications, boards and nameplates of the officers should be published or written in Marathi. Whether information is being provided via online and offline mode, Marathi language should be used prominently, the circular stated.

Despite the circulars issued, websites of several city police commissionerates in the state are not in Marathi, including the websites of Mumbai and Thane Police. Even the official Twitter account of Mumbai police gives notifications and information in English.
