Illegal banners: BMC records over 9,000 cases since March

While the campaign for the General election in Mumbai has reached its last leg, the number of cases against illegal banners, wall painting and others have reached over 9,000.

After the Model Code of Conduct came into force in March, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) started removing posters, banners and other display materials from public and private places that were put up without requisite permission. The total number of cases until April was 9,136.

Since March 11, the total number of cases of illegal banners and posters including wall painting reported in public places are 8,767 while in private places it is 369. A senior official from the License department of BMC said that they have removed around 7493 defacements from public places till April 22 while in private places it was 360. He added that the maximum number of banners were found Borivali and Malad with 250 and 244 respectively. Matunga under the F South ward saw the maximum number of the illegal poster with 287 which was followed by Chembur with 174 number of posters. The BMC also registered FIR in 50 cases for defacing public and private properties. And maximum FIRs were registered in Malad.

Interestingly, not a single violation was found in Sandhurst road, Mohammed Ali road and Carnac Bunder in South Mumbai under the B ward. In addition, there were no cases reported in private places in South Mumbai under the A, B, C and D ward. A senior official from the License department said that they took action under the Maharashtra Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1995.
