The third Friday of May is celebrated as National Endangered Species Day across the globe to raise awareness about endangered species and wildlife.

National Endangered Species Day gives us the opportunity to increase our knowledge about wildlife and endangered species and take key steps to save them. 

This day also recognizes the national conservation efforts to protect endangered species and their habitats.

According to the official website, due to the global coronavirus crisis, Endangered Species Day 2020 will primarily be celebrated through online events, digital actions, and individual activities. 


History

The first International Endangered Species Day was first celebrated in 2006. In 1960-1970s the wellbeing of animals with the environment was the biggest challenge for people. 

The Endangered Species Act of 1973 was signed into law on 28 December to raise the importance of wildlife conservation and restoration efforts for all imperilled species. 

It is said that Endangered Species Day was first created by U.S. Senate in 2006.
