In what can be termed as case of moral policing, the Lucknow University on Tuesday issued a circular against students celebrating Valentine’s Day on the campus.
‘It has been observed that for many years influenced by the Western culture, students have been celebrating Valentine’s Day on February 14,’ the circular said.
‘It is to inform the students that on occasion of Mahashivratri, the university will remain closed on 14-2-18,’ the circular added.

The university has strictly forbidden the students form ‘roaming inside the campus.’ It also says that no student will be permitted inside the campus and disciplinary action would be taken against those seen on the campus on Wednesday.
However, students are not impressed. They are calling the Lucknow University's advisory on Valentine's Day as 'an example of chhoti soch.' 'You've declared a holiday on that day, but telling students to not enter university premises isn't right at all. If we won't enter the university, then who will,' asks a student quoted by the ANI.
