Several homes were knocked down today in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh by a significant landslip. Images of the landslide depict many multi-story buildings falling and creating rubble and debris. As the severe rains continue to impact hilly states like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, India Meteorological Department has predicted weather conditions for other states in the upcoming days.

The northeast, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar are expected to see heavy to extremely heavy rainfall periods during the next three days, according to IMD. The following two days are expected to bring sporadic heavy rainfall to Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Odisha.

The meteorological service predicted light to moderate broad to widespread rainfall in Northwest India, as well as a few isolated areas of heavy rainfall, as per the latest bulletin. The IMD anticipated that this would happen on Thursday and Friday over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and East Uttar Pradesh.

A similar trend is expected in East India, with light to moderate, moderately widespread to widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated heavy rainfall events. From Thursday through Saturday, this weather pattern is predicted to have an impact on West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, and Odisha. These conditions are also likely in Jharkhand on Thursday and Friday, according to the IMD.

Notably, isolated occurrences of extremely heavy rain are expected over Odisha on Thursday and across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar on Friday. On Thursday, there is a higher probability of isolated, extremely heavy rain in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

Regarding Northeast India, the prediction is for sporadic spells of heavy rainfall as well as light to moderate, widely dispersed to widespread precipitation, thunderstorms, and lightning.

This is anticipated to last for the next five days over the area. Notably, Assam and Meghalaya might expect sporadic, very heavy downpours from Thursday through Saturday, while Arunachal Pradesh may get the same on Thursday and Friday, according to the meteorological service.
