Terrorists on Saturday hurled grenade at deputy commissioner’s office in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag injuring 14 people. Of the 14 injured, one person is a traffic cop and the other a journalist. One of them is said to be critical.

Terrorists hurled the grenade at the entrance of the office complex at around 11 am. After the incident, the J&K police tweeted to say that a traffic policeman and a journalist were also injured. The tweet also said that only minor injuries have been reported so far and a follow-up action has been initiated.

This is the second grenade attack in J&K in a week.

On September 28, terrorists hurled a grenade at CRPF’s  38 battalion personnel deployed in Nawa Kadal area of downtown Srinagar but there was no casualty.

The security personnel had cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to nab the terrorists.

Senior police officers said that it was an attempt by terrorists to induce fear in the minds of people.

Nod To Meet Abdullahs

  •  After getting a nod from J&K administration, National Conference on Saturday decided to send a 15-member delegation to meet party president Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah at Srinagar on Sunday
  •  “Today, we have got confirmation that a delegation will be allowed to meet Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. A 15-member delegation of NC leaders is going to Srinagar tomorrow morning,” the party said

Speaking about the attack, AK Goyal, DIG South Kashmir said, “People were busy in their work when this attack took place. This was done with an objective to spread fear and terror among people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh asked the cops to deal strictly with the elements involved in radicalisation of youths and pushing them towards terrorism.

Singh on Saturday visited police stations of Soura and Zadibal districts to interact with police personnel and take stock of the current situation in the area.

He further directed the police personnel to improve their proficiency and gain more public confidence.

“With the active cooperation of the people, the force has succeeded in bringing peace. It is our endeavour to keep the peace maintained at all levels,” he stated.
