The Centre has alerted Maoist-affected states, including Maharashtra, to a sudden spurt in violence and special recruitment drive by the CPI (Maoist) during the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army’s (PLGA) 11th anniversary celebration week from December 2 to 8.

Intelligence inputs suggest that Maoists could resort to not only opportunistic attacks on security forces and but also demonstrative destruction of economic infrastructure - railway property in particular.

The warning comes in the backdrop of the central military commission (CMC) senior member Thippiri Tirupati alias Deoji’s statement on November 20 exhorting cadre to renew struggle for seizure of political power through people’s war and swell the ranks of PLGA through fresh recruitment drive across states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.

Like in other states, posters have appeared Dhanora, Bhamragarh and Purada in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra asking people to observe protest and the anniversary week.

Security forces are on alert and bracing up for action as the week would be observed in the shadow of the recent killing of senior politburo member Kishenji and coincides with the Protest Week from November 29 to December 5 and Bharat Bandh on December 4 and 5.
