Pornographic video content is quite accessible in India. Earlier, reports had suggested that the country’s pornographic sites have witnessed a 95 per cent hike in their viewership amidst the pandemic. Recently, Gujarat’s Home Minister Harsh Danghavi has commented about the increasing viewership of such content.

As per Sanghavi, easy access to pornographic videos on mobile phones is the main reason for rapes in India. Giving another reason for the high incidence of rape in the country, Sanghavi said that known people like neighbours and family members are often perpetrators.

He further elaborated that mobile phones and known people committing crimes were the main cause for increasing number of rape cases in the country.

“We always blame the police for rape incidents. But such incidents are a blot on society. We cannot only blame the police for such incidents. Gujarat is the safest in our country. When a father rapes his small daughter, is this not a huge social issue? If a father rapes his daughter, the reason is his mobile phone”, Sanghavi added.
