The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday released first list of 177 candidates for the Madhya Pradesh state Assembly elections. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will contest from his traditional seat of Budhni in Sehore district.

The list was finalised at the BJP's central election committee meeting Thursday night that was chaired by party president Amit Shah and attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi among others.

In the 2013 Assembly polls, the BJP had won 165 seats in the 230-member House. The Congress got 58 seats, the BSP four and one seat was won by an Independent.

MP has seen a long stint of BJP rule under Chouhan and this time, Congress is trying to project a united front to oust the saffron party from the state.

The nomination process in the state began today and the last date for filing nomination is November 9.
