The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is in the process of reappointing its law officers. These officers are those who represent the Union and the states at the Supreme Court and the High Courts across the country.

The Law Ministry has already sent out a communication to this effect to various law officers, seeking their consent. While almost all have consented to their term being continued, at least one judicial officer is believed to have said no.

Sources have also indicated that some of the officers may be dropped by the Union from their panel on account of their non-performance.

According to the Law Ministry’s website, there are 18 officers on their panel. Of them, the terms for 12 judicial officers, including Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, expire in the months of June and July.
