Tears, wails and cries ripped through the air of the Govindpura Baseri village and the hearts of its grieving residents when the coffin carrying the mortal remains of CRPF jawan Rohitash Lamba arrived at his native place.

The convoy carrying the mortal remains had reached Amarsar police station late on Friday night, where the convoy had halted only to start at 8 am for Lamba's native village. The distance from the police station which generally takes 15 minutes, took over six hours as a huge gathering assembled to accompany the jawan on his last walk home.

Youths on their bikes chanting — 'Rohitash Lamba amar rahe' and 'Bharat mata ki jail — moved in front of the convoy, alerting the villagers of the convoy's approach. People offered food and drinks to those who were part of the convoy as it took hours for the convoy to reach its final destination. While the convoy moved and people continued to join in, the convoy swelled upto over fifteen thousand people.

Holding Tricolours in their hands, children sat under the sun, waiting. The cremation ground was decorated with colorful gulal and various designs were made. Ramswaroop, a local from the area said, "Normally colours are not used when someone dies. However, the man was a jawan and died a soldier's death. Although, it is a sad occasion, in Rajasthan the passing away of a soldier is always celebrated as it is always considered a better death to die for the country."

The coffin carrying the mortal remains were then taken to the cremation ground where senior officials and politicians had assembled along with the crowd and a wreath laying ceremony was conducted. A Guard of Honour was given after which Lamba's two-month-old son gave fire to his pyre, the entire village behind him.
