India stands on better footing than rest of the world in fight against coronavirus: Health Minister Harsh Vardhan

He further said on Wednesday that India was among the first countries in the world to have responded to the news of the first coronavirus case being diagnosed in China on Jan 7.

The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday said that India is responding to coronavirus in a better manner than the rest of the world, and the frontline coronavirus warriors should be credited for their enormous sacrifice. The comments were made in an interactive session through video conferencing with senior officials and field officers of the World Health Organization (WHO) as well as key central and state government health functionaries.  

"India was first to respond to COVID -19 and stands on a better footing than the rest of the world because of the valuable and sincere services of our Corona warriors. We know the enemy and its whereabouts. We are able to check this enemy through community surveillance, issuance of various advisories, cluster containment, and dynamic strategy," Union Minister Harsh Vardhan said.

He further stressed that the spread of is being checked via community surveillance, issuance of various advisories, cluster containment, and dynamic strategy.

Meanwhile, he also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership during the time of such an enormous crisis. “We have a great leader in our PM as he is very receptive and accommodating to the suggestions given by experts from time to time, which in turn has led to India handling the bull of COVID-19 by its horns,” Union Minister Harsh Vardhan said.

Harshvardhan further said that in cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the country can eradicate the virus, just as it eradicated polio and smallpox earlier.

“WHO is an important partner in our fight against the COVID-19. I really value guidance and contributions made by the WHO in containing the spread of COVID-19 across the country.” he further said.

He further said on Wednesday that India was among the first countries in the world to have responded to the news of the first coronavirus case being diagnosed in China on Jan 7. 

"We started working on Jan 8 in our expert group meeting. On Jan 17, we issued health advisories," he said.
