Mustafabad assembly constituency is one of the 70 seats in Delhi and is a part of the North East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency, which has 2.23 lakh eligible voters, has a predominantly Muslim population.
This was one of the three assembly seats which were won by the BJP in 2015 polls despite having the presence of a huge Muslim population. Jagdish Pradhan won the seat by 6,000 votes as he polled 58,388 (35.33%) votes against Congress' Hasan Ahmed who received little more than 52,000 votes (31.68%).
AAP's Mohd Yunus received 49,791 or 30.13% of total votes polled.
In 2013 election, Hasan Ahmed had defeated Jagdish Pradhan by less than 2,000 votes while AAP's Kapil Kumar Dhama was placed third. Before that, in 2008 election, Hasan Ahmed won the seat by less than 1,000 votes against BJP's Yogender Kumar Sharma.
In 2020, the AAP had again fielded Mohd Yunus against sitting BJP MLA Jagdish Pradhan and Congress' Ali Mehndi.
