Earlier in the week, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that the third wave of COVID-19 has started in the national capital.
As Delhi is currently witnessing the third wave of coronavirus, long queues were seen outside the Delhi Metro's Rajiv Chowk station.
Dozens of people queued up to undergo the thermal screening and hand sanitisation at the entry points of the station. It is also a crucial metro stop that connects areas like Connaught Place, Jantar Mantar and Janpath.
Delhi metro is receiving a considerable amount of traffic ever since it resumed operations in September.
The DMRC decided that the compartment would carry around one-fifth of the earlier capacity to ensure social distancing.
Moreover, trains halt at each station for an extra few seconds to ensure people board and deboard safely while maintaining proper social distancing.
It is to be noted that the public should avoid unnecessary travel, and look for stagger travel timings for office.
For the safe travels of passengers, the DMRC also introduced peak hour frequency of trains from 8 AM to 8 PM, doing away with the concept of off-peak hours from 11 AM to 4 PM where services were available with fewer trains earlier.
Earlier in the week, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that the third wave of COVID-19 has started in the national capital.
"About 6,800 beds are occupied in Delhi due to COVID-19 while 9,000 are available. We can call this the 3rd wave of COVID cases here but we have focused on aggressive testing in the last 15 days so the spike can be attributed to that too,” said Satyendar Jain.
He further added, “We're going to the Supreme Court to address the High Court overturn of our mandate to reserve 80% beds as ICU beds in private hospitals because the main issue is that of the availability of ICU beds.”
On Saturday, Delhi recorded 6,953 fresh coronavirus cases and 79 deaths.
Notably, Delhi recorded over 7,000 COVID-19 cases for the first time on Friday.
The current tally of COVID-19 cases in Delhi stands at 4.3 Lakh, the health bulletin states.
