The central vigilance commission (CVC) has put its inquiry into Commonwealth Games (CWG) graft cases by fixing a 31-day deadline for completion of investigation.

It has directed all ministries and departments to complete the process of giving opinions and comments on tainted officials in three weeks. If they don’t comply, CVC will initiate suo motu proceedings against these officials.

Normally, the departments and ministries are given a three-month period but in CWG cases, the time limit is being reduced. Rules will be amended accordingly.

According to procedure, all recommendations of CVC are further probed by CBI, enforcement directorate and other agencies. They take a call on whether to file a charge sheet or not after that. CVC is also aware that the VK Shunglu committee constituted by the prime minister to look into all CWG-related issues has been given three months. All reports of CVC and other agencies will go to the committee for vetting.

Official sources confirmed that a circular had been sent to all ministries, public sector enterprises, boards, autonomous organisations, chief vigilance officers of various departments under CVC’s purview along with CBI.
