13-year-old raped by neighbour in Gujarat

A 28-year-old youth was caught by Ranip police on the charges of raping a minor girl thrice, which resulted in her pregnancy.

On Wednesday night, Rajesh Patel (name changed), his wife and other family members, rushed to Ranip police station after they learned that their 13-year-old daughter Rina (name changed) was pregnant. In their complaint, Rajesh alleged that Mayur Patel, who lives next to their house, raped his daughter and made her pregnant.

Rajesh is an autorickshaw driver and lives at a two-storey house in Ranip. The second floor is occupied by Patel’s elder brother and his family. During Diwali vacation, Rina used to study on the terrace of the second floor of her house where she was spotted by Mayur.

On one such instance, he jumped over the common terrace wall and raped her after taking her to a room on the second floor. When she tried to protest, Mayur allegedly threatened her with life. Later that month, Mayur allegedly raped her twice. When Rina started vomiting, her family members sensed that something was wrong. They got her pregnancy test done, which gave a positive result.

After taking the complaint, Ranip police arrested Mayur on Thursday evening. “We have sent the girl and Mayur for medical test. We will also conduct a DNA test of Mayur to confirm about the unborn child’s father,” said K D Champavat, police inspector
of Ranip.
