The crackdown against the miscreants who had set multiple vehicles on fire and damaged public property during Maratha agitation in Chakan earlier this year continues as Pimpri Chinchwad police have made fresh 11 arrests in connection with the violence.

The police said these arrests have been made in the last 15 days. With these fresh arrests, the total number of arrests in the Chakan case has now gone up to 41.

Earlier arrests were made by the Pune rural police soon after the violence as the industrial town of Chakan came under the jurisdiction of Pune rural police. However, after the formation of new Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate, now the Chakan falls under PCMC police who formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe Chakan violence. The fresh arrests have been made by this SIT.

"We are scrutinising the available CCTV footage and other video recordings of the violence in Chakan which took place on July 30. During the scrutiny, we identified these 11 persons who were seen actively participating in the violence. Based on the video evidence, we arrested them," a senior police officer from PCMC police said.

The police have also made it clear that the action against the miscreants will continue as they are still scrutinising more footage.
"We will be making more arrests of the people who are seen participating in the violence," the officer said.

The area of Chakan had witnessed one of the worst violence during the Maratha agitation where 60 vehicles were damaged by the rioters and police force was also attacked by some of them. The estimated loss of Rs 8 crore have been reported in the case.
