India has not only already achieved the renewable energy capacity installation target of COP 21 but has even crossed it with the generation of 1,90,000 MW of power against the target of 1,75,000 MW of installed renewable energy. Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy RK Singh said while talking to India's Public Broadcaster before the start of the 3rd Global RE-INVEST Renewable Energy Investors Meet & Expo. The meet organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, will be held from 26 – 28 November 2020 on a Virtual Platform.

According to Prasar Bharati News Service, the minister notes that "The environment has emerged as a major concern for the world. Every country has realized that there has to be a concerted move on the part of the world community to reduce the carbon footprint to reduce global warming by two degrees. We had discussions at the Conference of Parties in Paris, and thereafter there is going to be another conference with all the other countries on the issue of environment and global warming."

He points out that "The world has witnessed India's energy transition, from fossil fuel to green energy. The world has decided to cut down the use of fossil fuels so that the carbon load on the environment can be reduced."

He highlights that "India is one of the leading countries in this transition. The rate of growth of renewable energy capacity is the highest in the world. In fact, on the sidelines of the COP 21, we have said that we would have installed 1,75,000 MW of renewable energy by 2030. India has pledged that by 2022 our 40 percent of the installed capacity will come from renewable energy such as wind, solar, and hydro."

He says, " We are the fastest growing country, as far as renewable energy is concerned. If you take the renewable energy capacity that is installed and the others which are under installation, then it comes at 1,90,000 MW."

He adds, "We have already achieved the goal of the Paris target which we were expected to fulfill by 2030 but had already crossed it. The world has recognized that India is closest to achieving the target limiting the global warming target by two-degree centigrades."

According to him, "It serves us and the world in two ways. Firstly it is essential that the world has to reduce carbon emission, which is essential for survival. Secondly, renewable energy generated is cheaper than the energy generated from fossil fuels."

He further says, "India would also hold RE invest Meet which would last for a fortnight. We hold RE invest Meet so that all the companies in the renewable energy sector can conglomerate in India to display the latest technologies in the field of renewable energy and discuss the ways for the energy transition."

The 3rd Global RE-INVEST Renewable Energy Investors Meet & Expo, organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, will be held from 26 – 28 November 2020 on a Virtual Platform.

RE-INVEST 2020 is expected to be attended by over 75 international Ministerial delegations, over 1000 global industry leaders, and 50,000 delegates.
