Veteran Malayalam actor Captain Raju passes away at 68

Captain Raju, noted actor who primarily worked in the Malyalam film industry, died on Monday morning at the age of 68. 

The actor who was ailing for sometime, passed away at his residence in Kochi, near Palarivattom in Kerala.

A few months ago, the actor had suffered a stroke during a flight to America. 

After being informed of his condition, the flight was diverted and ended up landing in Oman, Muscat. 

Following his family’s request, the actor was then shifted from Muscat to Kochi for further treatment, where his condition had been declared stable at the time.

Captain Raju quit the Indian army and embarked on a career in acting in 1981. 

He was a part of over 500 films and had tried his luck on the small screen as well. One of his best performances was in Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s Nadodikkattu. He was last seen in 2017’s Masterpiece.

Other popular films of the actor include Nadodikattu, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Pavam Krooran. He had also acted in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films.

Raju also directed two films, namely Itha Oru Snehagadha and Mr Pavanai 99.99.

He is survived by his wife Prameela and son Ravi.
