X’mas is nearly here and there’s no better time to snuggle up with a blanket and tune into some holiday classics. The festival is all about love, family and spreading cheer, so we have compiled a list of a variety of movies that will make you laugh, smile and even cry. Happy watching!

Love Actually

This star-studded flick definitely tops the list simply for its feel-good factor. The story binds together multiple love stories — between a school going child and his crush, a brother and a sister, older married couples and even the British Prime Minister and his staff. With Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley forming the cast, this charming movie will make you believe in love again. Don’t miss the incredible soundtrack as well.

Home Alone

This 1990 film tells the story of an eight-year-old boy Kevin Mccallister, who’s been left all alone for Christmas. He must defend his house from two burglars. Home Alone has remained a much-loved family flick for the adorable Macaulay Culkin and the good vs evil theme. Needless to add, the film was so successful that it spawned two sequels.

Miracle on 34th Street

There are several versions of this classic (1947, 1955 and 1994), and while the cast changes with each, the central theme remains the same. This movie makes it to our list for the sheer idea that Santa Claus could be real. It’s about a department store Santa Claus, Kris Kingle, who everyone else thinks is mentally unstable, but believes he’s the real deal. Eventually, a lawyer proves that Santa does exist.

Elf

This comedy starring Will Ferrell in the lead role is about one of Santa’s elf who soon realises he’s unlike the rest, and goes to New York City to find his real family. This flick will not just leave you in splits but also get you in the Christmas spirit.

It’s a Wonderful Life

A tear-jerker film, this is a must-watch this weekend. It tells the story of George Bailey, a man who has given up on life and is ready to commit suicide on Christmas Eve, when two angels descend and convince him that he’s giving up the greatest gift of all, life.
