It was only a week ago that Abigail Breslin spoke up on social media about having been sexually assaulted while in a relationship. The 21 year old actress posted a photo in honour of sexual awareness month that revealed that she was raped when she was in a relationship.

The post garnered Breslin much praise for coming out and speaking on the issue despite being so young. The actress then posted another picture on Instagram detailing the trajectory of rape cases being reported, saying that of every 1000 rapes, 994 perpetrators walk free. She captioned the post "#knowthefacts".

When someone commented on the post saying "reported rapes are the only rapes that count", Breslin posted a reply to the comment on her Instagram account. She admits to having been in a relationship with the person she was assaulted by, and admits that she was too scared to report the rape. She was in complete shock and knew that if she reported the incident, it would not only hurt her family but also her. And there was no guarantee reporting it would lead to something either.
