The Delhi Police on Monday arrested two illegal interstate arms peddlers near Rajghat and recovered 21 sophisticated pistols and an equal number of spare magazines from their possession. Both the arrested men, identified as Vineet Kumar and Ram Kumar alias Ramu, are cousins and residents of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.
Monday's arrests came after a number of similar interstate arms syndicates had been busted by the Delhi Police in recent times. The information about the racket run by Vineet and Ram was also received from one such case.
"These peddlers procure the illegal arms from different parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and then supply them to the criminals of Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). We received secret inputs about an expected delivery of arms by the two on Monday under the Salimgarh Flyover near Rajghat. Accordingly, we set up a team and decided to send it to the location," said an official of Delhi Police's Special Cell.
The police team went to the spot on Monday and took their positions in disguise. About 5 pm, both the accused were seen walking under the flyover with a rucksack bag each.
"We apprehended them and on inspection, we found a large number of pistols and magazines inside the bags. Both of them were then arrested and a case under the Arms Act was registered at the Special Cell Police Station," the police official added.
On interrogation, they disclosed that they had been trafficking arms for almost 10 years now. They also revealed that they had been arrested earlier in a couple of cases of attempt to murder in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

The police are now verifying their previous involvements in crime and are investigating into other possible linkages of the arms racket.
