With less than 10 days remaining until the highly anticipated 2023 World Cup, reports have emerged suggesting a potential rift within the Bangladesh cricket team. It is alleged that Shakib al Hasan, a prominent figure in the team, has expressed his intention to step down from his captaincy role. Meanwhile, Tamim Iqbal, another key player, has reportedly informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that he may only be able to participate in five matches during the World Cup. Consequently, Shakib seems to be opposed to including the partially fit opener in the prestigious tournament.

Tamim recently made his comeback to the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand after a prolonged absence due to a back injury. However, the former captain has admitted to experiencing considerable discomfort following his batting performance in the second ODI. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic that the team's physiotherapists will assist him in overcoming these challenges in due course.

According to reports, Tamim has informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that he will not be able to participate in more than five matches during the upcoming World Cup. In response, Shakib has stated that he himself will not play in the tournament if a player who is not fully fit is included in the squad. An unnamed BCB official shared the following statement with the Daily Star:

"Shakib doesn't want to be captain. Because he doesn't want to go to the World Cup with a half-fit player."

Meanwhile, Tamim, who performed admirably with a score of 44 against the New Zealand team in the second One Day International (ODI) held in Mirpur, will unfortunately be absent for the upcoming third and final ODI scheduled for September 26th. Consequently, Najmul Hossain Shanto will assume the responsibility of leading the team.

Although the opening match was disrupted by inclement weather, the hosts suffered a defeat of 86 runs in the second ODI after allowing the opposition to score 254 runs. Consequently, Bangladesh is now determined to secure a victory on Tuesday, in order to bolster their confidence as they approach the World Cup.
