Navdeep Saini became another name in the injury list of the Indian cricket team after he suffered a groin injury on the first day of the Brisbane Test against Australia. Navdeep Saini was bowling his eighth over and on the fifth ball, he had a catch dropped by Ajinkya Rahane at gully with Marnus Labuschagne getting a huge life. However, as he prepared to bowl the next ball, Navdeep Saini suffered the injury and did some stretching exercises. The physio came out and Navdeep Saini could not complete his over. According to an update from the BCCI, it stated, "Navdeep Saini has complained of pain in his groin. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team."

The side is already dealing with injuries to Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah and Hanuma Vihari who were all sidelined after the epic draw in Sydney. Navdeep Saini's addition will already add to the woes of the depleted squad and it will put more strain on Ajinkya Rahane's bowling resources which are already thin.

India seize the initiative

Despite Navdeep Saini's injury, India is still holding their own in the Gabba Test against Australia after the hosts chose to bat. Mohammad Siraj removed David Warner in the first over while Shardul Thakur got the better of Marcus Harris with his first ball in Test cricket in Australia. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne stitched a brilliant partnership in excess of fifty but in the post-lunch session, Washington Sundar had a moment to cherish as he dismissed Steve Smith for 36 with a flighted delivery that he whipped to short midwicket.

However, Marnus Labuschagne and Matthew Wade have stitched another big partnership, with Labuschagne motoring along as he aims to score a century to give Australia the advantage. The four-match series is currently tied 1-1. At tea on day 2, Australia are 154/3 with Labuschagne unbeaten on 72 while Matthew Wade is on 27.
