ISSF World Championships: Esha Singh, Shiva Narwal triumph as India win Gold in 10m air pistol mixed team event

India's Esha Singh and Shiva Narwal brought tremendous joy to the Indian contingent as they secured the coveted 10m air pistol mixed team gold, winning over Turkey in a thrilling showdown at the ISSF World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan on a memorable Friday.

In an intense gold-medal match, the Indian pair outplayed their Turkish opponents, Ilayda Tarhan and Yusuf Dikec, with a final score of 16-10, adding a valuable contribution to India's growing medals collection. As a result, India now boasts a commendable two medals in total, propelling them to the second position on the medal tally. Although China continues to dominate the leaderboard with an impressive haul of five gold and two bronze medals, India's triumph is a testament to its prowess.

During the qualification round, both Esha and Narwal showcased their exceptional shooting skills. Esha delivered an outstanding performance with a score of 290, while Narwal was equally impressive with a score of 293.

Their combined score of 583 enabled them to clinch the top spot in the qualification round, surpassing Turkey, which secured the second position with an overall score of 581. China and Iran followed closely with identical aggregates of 580; however, China's superior "inner 10s" gave them the edge, securing them the third spot.

On the flip side, the Indian rifle shooters struggled to find their rhythm, falling short of expectations in the 10m air rifle mixed team event's qualification stage. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to progress beyond this initial phase.

Similarly, the women's skeet team encountered challenges as well, narrowly missing out on a spot in the medal bracket and concluding their campaign in fourth place. In the rifle mixed team category, Mehuli Ghosh and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar aggregated 630.2, landing them in the ninth position during the qualification round.

The second Indian pair, Ramita and Divyansh Singh Panwar, managed an aggregate score of 628.3, placing them in the 17th spot among a competitive field of 77 teams. The cutthroat nature of the competition meant that only the top four teams would proceed to the finals.

During the finals, the Chinese duo of Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao showcased their prowess, amassing an impressive combined score of 632.7 and securing the leading spot in the qualification round. Iran closely followed with an aggregate of 632.5, while Israel and France both achieved a score of 631.4, with France securing the fourth spot due to superior "inner 10s
