Bangladesh emerged victorious over India by a margin of 6 runs in their recent Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 stage match held in Colombo. This defeat marked India's first loss against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup (across all formats) in a span of 11 years.

In the match, Shubman Gill showcased his exceptional skills by scoring his fifth One Day International (ODI) century, almost single-handedly leading India's chase. However, his impressive innings of 121 off 133 deliveries eventually came to an end. KL Rahul was the only other batsman who managed to stay at the crease with Gill for a significant period of time. Together, they formed a partnership of 57 runs for the third wicket before Rahul was dismissed by Mahedi Hasan.

Following that, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja were dismissed without making a significant impact on the scoreboard. Gill's innings concluded with Axar Patel as his partner. Axar provided a glimmer of hope for India by scoring a quickfire 42 off 34 balls. However, his dismissal all but confirmed India's defeat. The match reached its conclusion when Mohammed Shami was run out off the penultimate ball of the Indian innings.

Prior to India's innings, Bangladesh faced a top-order collapse. However, crucial contributions from Shakib Al Hasan (80) and Towhid Hridoy (54) propelled the team to a competitive total of 265/8 after Indian captain Rohit Sharma elected to bowl first in Colombo. Among the Indian bowlers, Shardul Thakur stood out with figures of 3/66, although he was also the most expensive. Mohammed Shami (2/32), Prasidh Krishna (1/43), Axar Patel (1/47), and Ravindra Jadeja (1/53) also made valuable contributions by taking wickets.
