The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the four-Test series against Australia beginning in December.

There were three big takeaways from the 18-member squad announced by BCCI. Firstly, Rohit Sharma has been recalled to represent India in the longest format of the game. The last time the Mumbaikar played a Test was in South Africa earlier this year. He was then dropped because of the lack of runs from his bat. What earned him a comeback is anybody's guess.

Secondly, Murali Vijay has returned to the Indian side. The stylish right-hander was dropped after he failed miserably in the first two Tests in England. He has, perhaps, been included due to his impressive overseas performances in the past and the experience he brings to the table.

Lastly, veteran keeper Parthiv Patel received what some might say a shock call-up. The Gujarat lad's inclusion could well prove to be a step back for the Indian team. With Wriddhiman Saha injured and Dinesh Karthik failing in England, Parthiv has surely gotten lucky with an India berth.

Other than these three names, the rest of the players in India's squad for the highly-anticipated series Down Under are the usual suspects.

Young Prithvi Shaw, having made a stellar debut against West Indies recently, kept his place and ensured Shikhar Dhawan didn't get to sneak back in. Hanuma Vihari, after impressing on his Test debut in England, managed to hold on to his place too.

Here's India's squad for the Test series in Australia

Virat Kohli (C), Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Parthiv Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
