In a stunning display of dominance, India captured their record-extending 8th Asia Cup title on Sunday, September 17, sending a resounding message ahead of the ODI World Cup. The Asian cricket giants achieved a resounding 10-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Sri Lanka found themselves in dire straits, bowled out for a mere 50 runs, marking their second-lowest total in ODI history and the lowest ever against India in the 50-over format. This dismal performance also etched a new record as the lowest team total in Asia Cup history, thanks to the fiery performance of India's pacers.

The hero of the day was undoubtedly Mohammed Siraj, whose brilliant spell saw him claim 6 wickets for a mere 21 runs in his 7-over stint. His sensational performance left Sri Lanka reeling at 12 for 6 at one point, eventually collapsing to 50 all out in just 13.1 overs.

India's chase was a mere formality, as they cruised past the target in just 6.1 overs, securing their most comprehensive victory in terms of balls remaining in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma, at the helm, celebrated his second Asia Cup triumph as captain, emulating the likes of MS Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin. It was under Rohit's leadership that India had previously clinched the Asia Cup in 2018, a tournament where Virat Kohli had been rested ahead of the 2019 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma now stands proudly as the third Indian captain to secure more than one Asia Cup title, joining the esteemed company of MS Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin, both of whom have also won the prestigious tournament twice.

India's Record in Asia Cup Titles:

MS Dhoni: 2 titles in 3 finals (2010 and 2016)

Mohammad Azharuddin: 2 titles in 2 finals (1991 and 1995)

Rohit Sharma: 2 titles in 2 finals (2018 and 2023)

Dilip Vengsarkar: 1 title in 1 final (1988)

Sunil Gavaskar: 1 title as captain in 1984

Rohit Sharma's leadership has once again propelled India to the pinnacle of Asian cricket, solidifying his place as one of India's most successful cricket captains.
