Fast bowler Peter Siddle returned with his best-ever figures in the Big Bash League (BBL) as Adelaide Strikers beat the Hobart Hurricanes in the reverse fixture at the University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston.

Bowling first, Strikers had a fantastic start as they took the first Hurricanes wicket in the first over itself as their last game's hero with the bat, Daniel Worrall sent Will Jacks packing.

Siddle came into bowl the second over and got Hurricanes' Mr. BBL, D'Arcy Short poking at a delivery outsude leg-stump straight into the hands of Alex Carey.

Hurricanes poor start worsened as they lost their skipper Peter Handscomb soon after inside the powerplay.

Ben McDermott and Colin Ingram joined to give the men in purple a much-needed comeback as the duo stitched a 75-run partnership and were on course for a big total after a massive recovery.

However, losing both McDermott and Ingram in quick succession didn't help and the Hurricanes kept on losing wickets.

Tim David did hit a couple of lusty blows, but Siddle came back in his last two overs and kept chipping away at the wickets and achieved his fifer. The ageless speedster ended with figures of 5/16 as Hurricanes folded for 146.

Hurricanes too gave the Strikers a taste of their own medicine as James Faulkner sent Phil Salt and Matt Renshaw, back in the first over itself to reduce the Strikers to 9-2.

However, the pair of Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald were involved in a 107-run partnership as the duo mixed aggression and solidarity at the crease to first weather the storm and then trying to finish the game quickly.

Strikers on their way got the Bash Boost point as well. Even though, Hurricanes took a few wickets at the end, but it was too late as Weatherald remained unbeaten on 68 (48) to take the men in blue home and got them on the board.

Strikers with this win, opened their account as they suffered a narrow loss from the Hurricanes themselves in the first fixture of their season. This was Hurricanes' first loss after they won the first two and sit on the second position with 7 points, behind Melbourne Stars who are at the top with eight.
