India is now the fifth largest economy in the world and now we have many billionaires in the country. India now boasts of several world-class companies, including Reliance Industries, Tata Group, Infosys, HCL, Wipro, to name a few.  India’s richest person Mukesh Ambani’s net worth is USD 91.5 billion, while the net worth of Gautam Adani, who is the second richest person in India is USD 52.6 billion. But there money seems very little in front of the huge wealth owned by the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan.

It is to be noted that Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan is regarded as the first billionaire of independent India and his net worth was estimated at USD 230 billion i.e. Rs 17.47 lakh crores. Nizam Ali Khan was once named as the richest man in the world by Times magazine. Osman Ali Khan was coronated as the Nizam of Hyderabad in 1911. When India became independent on August 15, 1947 and Hyderabad was merged with India, he remained in this position till then.

According to reports, Nizam Osman Ali Khan used diamond worth Rs 100 crore as paperweight. India may have seen many kings who had more money than Nizam Ali but since no concrete records are available about their wealth of ancient or medieval rulers we can say that Nizam Ali was the not only the first billionaire of India but the richest Indian ever. Nizam Ali of Hyderabad was named as "The Richest Man in the World" by Time magazine in its February 22, 1937 issue.

When Nizam Ali was in power he had his own currency and the Nizam also used to own a private airline. He had 100 million pounds of gold, 400 million pounds of jewels. Nizam Ali’s main source of income was Golconda mines. According to reports, Nizam Osman Ali was the owner of 50 Rolls-Royce cars, including the Silver Ghost Throne Car.
