Rebel Foods might not be a well known name in the fast food business in India, but its projects and internet restaurants have gained massive popularity on Swiggy and Zomato. The brains behind the rise of Rebel Foods are two IIM graduates Jaydeep Barman and Kallol Banerjee.

Giving a tough fight to foreign food brands like KFC, McDonald’s and Domino’s, Rebel Foods and its internet restaurants like Faasos and Ovenstory Pizza are slowly becoming household names in major metro cities, all thanks to the IIM graduate duo.

Both Jaydeep and Kallol were friends while they were pursuing their MBA from IIM Lucknow, and had high paying jobs when they decided to pursue their true passion. In 2011, they established Faasos, specializing in rolls and wraps with an Indian twist.

However, they realized that Rebel Foods’ maiden venture Faasos was not enough to establish dominance in the food sector. Soon, they capitalized on India’s love for pizza and launched Ovenstory, which offered a wide range of Indian toppings.

Seeing the success of their Cloud Kitchen venture Ovenstory and Faasos, the IIM duo ended up launching 15 brands through Rebel Foods which have since gained prominence on Swiggy and Zomato. Some of these brands are Behrouz Biryani, Sweet Truth, Firangi Bake, Mandarin Oak and more.

These brands don’t have any physical restaurant locations, and are only available for ordering online through food delivery platforms. By setting up small kitchens in cost-effective areas, Rebel Foods has turned massive profits and become the biggest internet restaurant in the world.

With even Domino’s India battling to match up to the startup founded by the two IIM graduates, Rebel Foods and its companies like Faasos and Ovenstory now have a valuation of USD 1.4 billion, which comes out to over Rs 11,000 crore.
