Rohit Shetty’s directorial, Simmba, starring Ranveer Singh in the titular role, opposite Sara Ali Khan, who is only a film old, is off to a brilliant start in Australia.

The big budget entertainer, has earned Rs 88.58 lakh on its opening day at the Australian box office to become Rohit Shetty’s highest-opening film in the country ever.

Simmba has beaten Shetty's films including Golmaal Again (2017), Dilwale (2015), Singham Returns (2014) and Chennai Express (2013) to grab the coveted spot.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the oversea box office collection of the film on his Twitter handle on Saturday.

He tweeted:

The analyst, in another tweet wrote that unlike what a section of the industry thought, Simmba is doing pretty well overseas.

He wrote, "A section of the industry was of the opinion that #Simmba wouldn’t rake in big numbers Overseas, due to the masala quotient... But the audience knows best... #Simmba embarks on one of the best starts in #Australia... Fri A$ 180,253 [₹ 88.58 lakhs]. @comScore"

While Simmba has received amazing response in Australia on its first day of release, it has registered good business back home as well.

If early estimates by trade analysts are to be believed, the masala action drama has earned nearly Rs 22 crore on its opening day at the domestic box-office.

Earlier on Friday, Simmba received mixed response from film critics across the country.

While some found the film ‘irresponsible,’ there were others who submitted to the logic-free plot and called the film 'paisa vasool'.

Simmba, jointly produced by Rohit Shetty Picturez and Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, narrates the story of a cheerfully corrupt police officer Sangram Bhalerao aka Simmba (Ranveer Singh), who has a change of heart when a girl who he treats as his younger sister gets raped.
