Netizens claim Parineeti Chopra lied about being poor in teenage years in viral video: 'Nothing about her is genuine'

Parineeti Chopra had said at an event in 2017 that her family had no money to send her to school via a car or bus so she cycled her way. As the video has resurfaced, netizens are bashing the actress.

Parineeti Chopra recently tied her knot with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha at an intimate yet grand wedding ceremony in The Leela Palace at Udaipur. The actress has been sharing photos and videos from her D-Day and pre-wedding festivities on her Instagram.

However, another video of Parineeti has gone viral on social media in which the actress can be heard saying, "I and my two brothers faced a lot of challenges while growing up. We didn't have so much money so I used to go to school on a cycle because we had no money for a driver or a bus." The clip is from a martial arts event in Mumbai in 2017 and was reshared on the Reddit subgroup BollyBlindsNGossip on Monday, October 2.

The video continues with a screenshot of a person's Facebook post, who claims to be Parineeti's schoolmate, in which he wrote, "Shame. Coming from a privileged background and lying through the teeth in front of camera. I guess this is what being a celebrity means. Create a fabricated sob story of no money no car etc etc. Coming from the same school I probably also remember the car her father used to have. And going to school on a cycle was a trend those days and also a privilege not every one had."

In the comments section, netizens are bashing the Ishaqzaade actress for spreading lies to gain sympathy. One of the Reddit users wrote, "Parineeti Chopra has always been that extremely fake cousin, nothing about her is genuine. Look I may be bit biased because I love Sid-Kiara (Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani) but Parineeti copying Kiara's wedding entrance is absolutely annoying." "She went to the UK to study at 17. She’s not poor", read another comment.

Chopra had actually moved to England when she was 17 to study at Manchester Business School but returned to Mumbai in 2009 after the 2008 global financial crisis. "The poor woman is traumatized from cycling to school. Can anyone in India even imagine that? Peddling away on a cycle when everyone else was driven to school in luxury cars? She probably wakes up screaming at night from that trauma", wrote another netizen in pure sarcasm.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Parineeti will be seen next in Mission Raniganj with her Kesari co-star Akshay Kumar. The survival thriller film, based on how mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill saved 69 miners in the Raniganj Coalfields collapse in 1989, releases this Friday in theatres.
