Senior actor Jaaved Jaaferi's son Meezaan is all set to wow the audience with his performance in the upcoming comedy flick 'Hungama 2', helmed by Priyadarshan. Ever since the trailer of the film released, Meezan has been receiving positive reviews for his on-screen persona and making headlines for acing the hook step of the blockbuster hit song 'Chura Ke Dil Mera', while matching steps with none other than Shilpa Shetty in the recreated version.

Recently, in a freewheeling chat with DNA, Meezaan opened up about bagging the film, working with an iconic director and legendary actors such as Paresh Rawal while sharing whether he was apprehensive about the comparisons with Akshay Kumar following the release of the recreated version of the hit track 'Chura Ke Dil Mera' or not. Meezaan also spoke about his relationship status and talked briefly about media reports about Navya Naveli Nanda and his rumoured affair.

When asked what made him say yes to the film after Kartik Aaryan, Ayushmaan Khurana and Sidharth Malhotra all rejected 'Hungama 2', Meezan told DNA, "I want to ask them what made them say no. How could you say no to Priyadarshan? For me, Priyan sir is a master in what he does and I would never say no to his film. I think in today's time and age we don't value makers like Priyan sir, but he is a master of his craft. I can promise you, when this movie (Hungama 2) comes out, everyone will be calling him asking to work with him."

"Look at the classics and the movies that he has given us. What are our comedy classics? Priyadarshan films, nothing else! Today, when we think of comedy, we think of Akshay Kumar, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, who comes to mind -- Priyadarshan. So how can you disregard Priyan sir. I love him. And am super thankful that I got this opportunity to work with him in this movie and particularly 'Hungama 2'. 'Hungama' was a cult film, and am so happy that I got the opportunity to be in this film," he added.

On being asked about his learnings after working with legendary actor Paresh Rawal in the film, Meezaan said, "At first I was so nervous and stressed. I was so intimidated by Paresh sir. I still am. Off-screen he is the quietest person, he doesn't talk to anybody. He sits in one corner and does his own thing. But the minute the camera turns on, he is a different person. I think that just shows his credibility as an actor. He just transformed and improvised sometimes which leaves so much room for me as an actor to react in better ways. I am so thankful I got to work with such legendary actors such as Paresh sir, Rajpal Yadav, Johnny sir, Ashutosh Rana, in this film because it has taught me so much as an actor and helped me get better."

When questioned about his equation was like with Shilpa Shetty with whom he has a substantial age gap, Meezaan interrupted and quipped, "I don't even know what the age gap is and I don't think she'll want me to emphasise that either but yes, there is an age gap and she is senior."

He added while sporting a smile on his face, "At first when I was going to meet her, I was really scared. I didn't know how am I going to address her, what should I say, how is the relationship going to be because I have a lot of scenes with her in the film. But it turned out to be super friendly because that's how she is as a person. She's friendly with everyone on the sets. She's full of masti, life, energy and positivity. And that translates on screen as well, that is why people love her. With me, a certain level of respect and love is there and at the same time I am glad to call her my friend."

On being asked if he was apprehensive about the comparisons with Akshay Kumar when the recreated version of 'Chura Ke Dil Mera' released, Meezaan said, "No apprehensions but I knew it was going to happen. At the same time, it didn't matter to me because we weren't copying the song, we tried to recreate it in our own way, with our own tadka and today's Gen Z kind of texture to it. I think we've done pretty well. We maintained the soul and  essence of the original song but at the same time did it in today's way."

While explaining what he meant, Meezan narrated an incident and said, "I remember I saw the song at the screening we had in Juhu and I was sitting with my family and Shilpa ji's family was also there and her son Viaan was also present. I could hear Viaan tell 'mom, I love this song way better than the original and you are looking way better than the original'. And I thought, exactly! If this kid thinks that, then it's true because today's generation is my audience, the viewers who probably haven't even seen the original."

"The song's turned out wonderful. It was a lot of hard work and pressure, and a lot of competition between Shilpa ji and me because we are both trying to outdo each other. It was fun to be doing not only the remake of the song but doing it with the original leading lay on whom it was picturised," he further added.

Lastly, while talking about his takeaway while working in a Priyadarshan film with an iconic cast, Meezaan said, "Just be open, bindaas, and let yourself completely go. I shared the screen with legendary actors, the learning that I got from them was that completely put your faith and trust in the director because it is his film, vision and story. Do not try to butt in and alter his story your way because too many cooks spoil the broth."

'Hungama 2' is all set to release digitally on Disney+Hotstar on July 23.
