Artist Suvigya Sharma, who has created artworks for some of the biggest names in the fields of business as well as entertainment in India, has now wowed Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma with one of his works.

Among his famous creations are a portrait that he made of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and an artwork of a sweet moment between the PM and his mother, Heeraben. Not just politicians and industrialists, but biggies like Sachin Tendulkar, Rani Mukerji and Kangana Ranaut, own some of Suvigya’s works. This time around, the actor chose a photo that Virat and Anushka had shot post their wedding to mark the big step in the couple’s life.

    PICKING THE RIGHT PICTURE

Suvigya, who practices the miniature painting technique, creates his artworks the old-school way with vegetable dyes and natural pigments. All the details from an eyelash to a hair strand are done with the help of a magnifying glass to give the creation a hyper-realistic feel. This artwork has been painted on ELFH, a patented, mineral-based composite that is 89 per cent close to genuine elephant ivory. Talking about the photo he picked to recreate, Suvigya says, “I had a choice of four-five pictures. I liked this because it seemed more candid and natural. I asked Virat and Anushka to let me do it in my own way. They gave me the freedom to do it in sepia tone. I was confident that it would come out well and it’s different from what I have done before. I’ve made portraits for a couple of other industrial families, but that was a long time ago. The dimension of this one is 15x18 inches.”

    GETTING IT RIGHT

The artist has been working on this project for around two months. “I was supposed to finish it in one-and-a-half month, but I took two. But they were really understanding about it and never rushed me. Virat’s face was a bit difficult to crack. Anushka’s face was done at once, but I wasn’t happy with his. So, I didn’t send them a picture of the finished work till I was completely satisfied with it. I then told them that I won’t send a picture, instead, I just sent over the final artwork.”

A MEETING IS ON THE CARDS?

Suvigya was pleased that the couple appreciated his effort. He says, “They were really happy with it. Generally what people come across are those typical canvas portraits. I briefed them about the idea behind this creation. I even sent them a magnifying glass with it so that they could view the detailed work. They loved how intricate it is.” Suvigya, who shuttles between Mumbai and Jaipur, where he has his workshop, might meet the couple during his visit to Mumbai. Virat and Anushka have expressed an interest in knowing more about his art. “Hopefully, I can create more artwork for them,” he concludes.
