Bangalore colleges prepare for the tie that matters

Cricket fever has now infected the city colleges, too, as many have decided to declare a holiday on April 2 (Saturday) if India enters the finals of the World Cup. The Men In Blue  will face Pakistan in the semi-final at Mohali on March 30.

Plans include installing giant screens in auditoria to let students watch the the finals.

Most colleges said if students appealed for a holiday on April 2, they would uphold it.

Baldwin Methodist College has already decided to declare a holiday on that day. “If India enters the finals we will declare a holiday on that day considering it to be a special occasion. This way we are supporting India to win the cup and letting our students enjoy, too,” said Dr Joshua Samuel, principal Baldwin Methodist PU and Degree College, on Hosur Road.

Administrative sources from Padmashree Group of Institutions said they, too, were considering declaring a holiday on that day following a request from their student community.

KN Balasubramanya Murthy, director and principal of PESIT, said, “Since the day one of the World Cup we have put screens in the hostels where about 250 students can sit and watch the matches. If India enters the finals, we are planning to put a big screen in the college auditorium and let the students enjoy the cricket.”

RV College of Engineering already has LCD screens in every block on its premises. “We will arrange it in a big way in the auditorium itself,” said BS Sathyanarayana, principal RVCE.
BP Pethiya, director, IFIM Business School, said, “We hope to create a stadium-like atmosphere for our students to celebrate the Indian victory.”

Sheshadripuram First Grade Degree College too is making arrangements for a big screen in its auditorium, while Bangalore University is replacing its old television sets with new ones for the students on the big day if India is in the finals.
