PD Vasava, MLA from Nandod seat, was finalised as the candidate from Bharuch. There was immense pressure on senior leader Ahmed Patel to fight from Bharuch, but he is believed to have prevailed over the party that it would be better if he focused on other responsibilities rather than being tied up in one seat. A triangular fight is likely in Bharuch if BTP leader and MLA Chhotu Vasava also remains in the fray.

The Congress finalised four-term former MP and Limbdi MLA Soma Patel as its nominee from Surendranagar. He will face off against BJP candidate Mahendra Munjpara. Sitting MP Devji Fatepara, who was dropped by BJP, Tuesday announced support for Patel.

The Congress finalised Mulu Kandoriya, who has been associated with the party for 35 years, as its candidate from Jamnagar Lok Sabha seat. The 60-year-old is also involved with various educational trusts. He will take on MP and BJP candidate Poonam Madam.

Gandhinagar North MLA CJ Chavda was selected as the candidate against BJP president Amit Shah from the prestigious Gandhinagar seat. Shah replaced LK Advani as the BJP nominee.

The Congress also finalised Ashok Adhewal as its candidate from Surat LS seat.

Late on Monday night, the Congress had nominated former government official and Patidar leader AJ Patel from Mehsana. He belongs to the politically and economically powerful Kadva Patidar community.

With these, the Congress party has finalised candidates for 20 out of 26 LS seats in the state. Ahmedabad East, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Bhavnagar, Dahod, and Kheda are the seats where the candidates are yet to be declared.

Prabhu Tokiya from DNH

The Congress finalised tribal leader Prabhu Tokiya, 40, as its candidate for Dadra & Nagar Haveli seat. The union territory will see a three-way fight between Tokiya, MP and BJP candidate Natu Patel, and six-term former MP Mohan Delkar, who is contesting as an independent after quitting the Congress last week.
