The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), on Saturday, formed a five-member committee to probe into the gaffe, when the corpse of one Nashrinbanu was handed over by the staff of AMC-run Vadilal Sarabhai (VS) Hospital to the family of Mittal Jadav. After he was stabbed, Jadav succumbed to his injuries.
The family of Nashrinbanu also demanded that the post-mortem be conducted again. They suspect that the foetus of Nashrinbanu has been removed. Families of both the young women have filed an FIR against the staff of VS Hospital for cheating them and causing mental harassment.
"We have formed a five-member committee to probe the matter. The incident of handing over a corpse to a different family must be investigated. Based on the findings of the committee, strict actions will be taken against the culprit," said Bijal Patel, Mayor, Ahmedabad. She also said that the peon, who was present during the handing over of the corpse has been suspended. "We acknowledge that there was a mistake on part of the peon. But, since the matter of Mittal Patel involves a police case, the cops were also present along with the relatives of the girl when the corpse was handed over," Patel said.
In another development, the relatives of Nashrinbanu demanded that her post-mortem be conducted again. They suspect that the foetus has been removed at the hospital. Nashrin, who was pregnant, had come for treatment at VS Hospital, during which she died.
"Since Nashrinbanu's family insisted, we conducted the post-mortem for the second time. We have also videographed the entire procedure and it has been shown to her family," said Patel.
Ramesh Jadav, father of Mittal Jadav, has filed a police complaint, on Saturday, against the staff of VS Hospital. The family of Nashrinbanu has supported him in the case. Jadav's father alleged that the staff of the hospital has cheated them by showing them the corpse of Mittal and handing over the corpse of Nashrinbanu. As per customary tradition, Mittal's family had buried the corpse. When Nashrin's family was shown the corpse, they realised the mistake. However, the body buried by Mittal's family, was later exhumed under the supervision of a magistrate.
