Even as the results were declared by the Delhi-based Central Board of Secondary Studies (CBSE) on Wednesday, premier schools in the city did not have any students passing out from humanities (arts).

The humanities stream has few takers after Std X in the CBSE schools.

RN Podar High School in Santa Cruz which has produced toppers in the stream did not offer the course this year. “Usually, not more than 10 students take up humanities and we did not have any classroom free,” said Avanita Bir, school principal.

“Hence we decided not to have the course this year. Even among ICSE students, science and commerce are more popular,” she added. However, the school has opened admission for the
stream this year.

Schools like DAV Nerul and Airoli, Rajhnas Vidyalaya, Kendriya Vidyalayas in Colaba and Powai did not have any students opting humanities. “Not many students are choosing this stream and one cannot start a course with just three children,” said an official from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Colaba-2.

The scenario is the same in Indian Secondary Certificate (ISC). “We have a capacity for around 60 students across streams. We had 21 science students and nine commerce students. We did not get any students for humanities. But we are planning to try it again this year,” said Seema Buch, principal of Gundecha Education Academy, Kandivli.
