The United States celebrates Labour Day on the first Monday in September as a tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country. The rest of the world celebrates this day on May 1 to celebrate the contribution of the workers to the economy of the country.

Unlike India and the rest of the world that celebrates Labour Day on May 1, the US version of Labour Day is a federal holiday, which means the government and US Territories are all closed to celebrate.

May 1's holiday apart from the fact that it is Labour Day is also celebrated to bring in the summer. The US celebrates Labour Day with parades.

In India, May 1 is also Maharashtra and Gujarat Day, as both states were formed on May 1, 1960.

According to a few websites, May Day is also associated with the Gaelic Beltane, which was a traditional summer holiday in many pre-Christian European pagan cultures. While February 1 was the first day of Spring, May 1 was the first day of summer. Many countries celebrate the day using different traditions, some also include Mother Mary. However, each festival celebrates the beginning of summer and includes dancing, music, singing, games, food, sweets and many other fun activities.
