Though tourists in the hill stations have definitely made hoteliers and business owners smile as their livelihood depends on tourism but has challenged authorities to ensure implementation of Covid-19 protocols amid fears of an impending third wave of coronavirus infections.

Social media is full of photos of heavily crowded streets in the city, some were concerned over the violation of Covid protocols by the tourists while others took this opportunity to take a dig at the tourists by sharing memes and jokes.

In viral photos, tourists maintaining no social distancing are seen on the streets of Manali. “Corona loves the way humans forget the lessons from past experiences. #Manali (sic),” a tweet read. “In search of peace, many people will rest in peace. If the 3rd wave arrives and causes havoc than special thanks to these people. Covid appropriate behaviour wasn't followed because of which 2nd wave struck (sic),” another tweet said.

Recently, a traffic cop in Manali lost his patience and slapped a tourist for not following the guidelines. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Kamal Verma said that “the tourists were on their way to Manali for which they took a U-turn, however, taking a U-turn before Victory Tunnel is not allowed. The traffic cop tried explaining this rule to the tourist, but they instead started arguing with him and even hurled abuses at him in the Haryanvi language.”
