Just a few weeks after Huawei was caught faking smartphone photos with a DSLR, Xiaomi has been caught doing the same thing.

Donovan Sung, Xiaomi Global’s spokesperson recently shared a photo on his Instagram, claiming it to have been captured from the Poco F1. However, it was actually taken by the Mi Mix 2S as it had the Mi 2S watermark at the bottom corner of the image.

After the image was shared on Reddit and criticized heavily, Sung took down the image from Instagram.

Recently, Huawei was also under the spotlight for faking the Nova 3’s camera photos, with a professional DSLR camera for an advertisement. Reddit user AbdullahSab3 discovered that Sarah Elshamy, an in the ad, posted photos on her Instagram page, and one of the images revealed a photographer shooting the "at-home selfie with a DSLR". Shortly after the behind-the-scene photo went viral, she took it down from her Instagram page.

Though the video does not clearly state that the shots were taken with the smartphone, it is rather implied that the company used a DSLR to promote a feature present in the smartphone. Huawei reacted to the controversy and said that the ad never outright claims that the picture was shot on Nova 3 smartphone.

According to Android Police, this is not the first time Huawei has made a false marketing claim. "The company was caught photo-shopping away bezels on renderings for the P8, and it was found to have posted a shot that appeared to be from a P9 on its Google+ page that EXIF data revealed to have been shot on a Canon EOS 5D Mark III," said the report.

When people discovered the Google+ image EXIF data, Huawei said it didn't really mean to imply that the photo was taken with the P9 and that the photo was shared "to inspire our community".
