The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur has written a letter to all the state associations accusing Supreme Court appointed Justice RM Lodha panel of continuously threatening the sports body officials with contempt of court notice if their directives are not followed.

"If the functioning of BCCI is hampered in this manner, it will surely spell the death knell of Indian cricket and of an institution, which is more than 87 years old," Thakur wrote in the letter on the eve of their hearing on this issue at the Supreme Court on Thursday.

Thakur also cited the issue of threatening the applicants for the job of selectors through media. "When BCCI tried to appoint selectors, various articles appeared based on sources in the Lodha committee that stated if the selectors apply then they will have adverse consequences. Many candidates didn't apply," the letter stated.

Thakur wrote that BCCI has been courteous and respectful towards the Lodha panel while responding to its emails. Whereas, the Lodha panel has asked the apex court in the last hearing to sack top BCCI officials for not cooperating in implementing the reforms.

On Tuesday, Thakur had threatened to call off the ongoing India-New Zealand series after the panel directed banks, where the BCCI holds accounts, to not release money for certain financial decisions taken by the board.

"There was a talk of cancellation of ongoing India-New Zealand series in various newspapers and news channels, due to apparent freezing of bank accounts of BCCI by the band concerned under the orders of Lodha committee.

"When there was a public furore over this, Justice Lodha appeared on almost all TV channels and said that BCCI is misleading the public and that they never ordered freezing of BCCI accounts and ongoing Test series can continue," Thakur wrote.

Thakur further claimed that "the banks (Yes Bank and Bank of Maharashtra) stopped transactions of BCCI on October 4 by issuing letters to that effect".

On the issue of BCCI's office bearer's tenure, Thakur has written: "The committee has chosen to apply the judgment retrospectively to the question of tenure of office bearers of BCCI. I fail to understand how there can be any pick and choose. If the report is to be binding it should be binding in totality and not in parts at the discretion of anybody."
