The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) lost its blue tick verification on X just moments before the start of the fifth and final match of the T20I series against West Indies in Lauderhill, Florida. This unexpected development left fans on the social media platform confused. However, it was later revealed that the Indian cricket board's action was in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's unique appeal on Sunday morning.

In anticipation of India's upcoming celebration of its 77th Independence Day on Tuesday, August 15, Prime Minister Modi has called upon all fellow countrymen to participate in the #HarGharTiranga movement. This movement encourages individuals to change their display picture on social media platforms to the Indian tri-colour. Setting an example, PM Modi himself has already made this change, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) followed suit on Sunday afternoon.

"In the spirit of the #HarGharTiranga movement, let us change the DP of our social media accounts and extend support to this unique effort which will deepen the bond between our beloved country and us," PM Modi tweeted.

According to the updated guidelines of the social media platform, verified users will lose their blue tick if they change their profile picture. However, the verification can be restored within three to four days after a quick account review on X.

Interestingly, Prime Minister Modi's account, which represents a government or multilateral organization, did not lose its grey tick even after he changed his profile picture to the Indian flag on Sunday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to regain the blue tick before the Indian team's final white-ball assignment prior to the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Led by Hardik Pandya, the team is currently preparing for the fifth and final T20I match against the West Indies, aiming for a historic series victory. Following this, India will play a three-match T20I series against Ireland, where Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team without the presence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, or Hardik.
